Palaui is an island in the Cagayan Province of the Philippines . This is located off the northeast coast of the island of Luzon in the south of the sea area of the Luzon Strait at the transition to the Philippine Sea . It is also known as Boracay of the North . The island is administered by the municipality of Santa Ana and is part of the Barangay San Vicente. The main town is Punta Verde on the east coast.
Palaui was on 28 August 1994 on natural and marine reserve Palaui Iceland Marine Reserve explained. It also includes the terrestrial area of the island, protecting an area of 74.15 km². On the coast of the island there are larger mangrove forests with extensive mudflats , smaller shallow water areas and coral reefs in front of them. The island covers an area of 38.50 km² and is largely forested. Little is known about the flora and fauna , however; smaller populations of deer and wild boar are believed to exist. Palaui has a length of 10 km, a width of 4.5 km and the highest point reaches 307 meters above sea level.
in 1896 the lighthouse was built at Cape Engaño on the northern tip of the island. It was declared a Historic Monument of the Philippines in 2008.
The island's climate is tropical and humid without a dry period, and rainfall occurs throughout the year.
The island of Palaui became known worldwide when the Japanese aircraft carriers Zuihō , Zuikaku , Chitose , Chiyoda and the destroyer Akizuki were sunk by the American units in the sea battle off Cape Engaño .
