Itbayat Island is the name of an island in Batanes Province in the Philippines . It belongs to the archipelago of the Batan Islands and is located about 290 km off the north coast of the island of Luzon , in the Luzon Strait . The island has an area of ​​approximately 92.9 km² and is administered by the town of Itbayat of the same name .

Itbayat Island is the largest of the Batan Islands and has an elongated oval shape with a length of 19 km and a width of 6 km. It consists almost entirely of coral stone. The island's coastline is characterized by steep cliffs and small, shallow bays. The topography of the island is characterized by a flat hilly landscape, in the northeastern center of the island the terrain in Mt Santa Rosa rises to 277 meters above sea level. The vegetation of the island consists partly of dense, low vegetation, but partly also of intensively agriculturally used areas.

The island has been settled for 3500 years, and intensive archaeological excavations were carried out in the Torongan Cave from 2002 to 2004. Other cave complexes on the island are the Northern Sarokan, Eastern Sarokan, Do'tboran, and Pevangan Cave.

To the north is Siayan Island in about 25 km, to the east is Diogo Island in 17 km, to the south-east is Batan about 50 km from the island. Itbayat Airport is located on the island, it has an 800 meter long runway. The island can also be reached by boat via the ports of Aparri and Basco .
