The Magat ( Eng .: Magat River ) is a river on the island of Luzon in the Philippines . It is a tributary of the Cagayan and flows through the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya , Ifugao and Isabela . The Magat has a length of 178 km and a water catchment area of 4638 km².
The Magat has its source in the Caraballo Mountains at an altitude of 1200 meters. It forms the geographical boundary between the Cordillera Central and the Caraballo Mountains. From its source, in the municipality of Santa Fe , the Magat flows in a north-easterly direction in a wide river valley in which the Magat reservoir is located on the territory of the municipalities of Ramon and Alfonso Lista . The river flows into the Cagayan near the municipalities of Gamu and Reina Mercedes . There are one large and two smaller hydropower plants along its course .
