The Magat Reservoir is a large dam on the Magat River in the Philippines . The dam is one of 114 meters and 4160 meters in length, the largest in Southeast Asia.
dam
The dam is located in the municipality of Ramon in the province of Isabela on Luzon . It is used to irrigate 85,000 hectares of land, flood protection and power generation . The reservoir holds around 993 million cubic meters, is 117 square kilometers and a maximum of 193 meters deep. The dam is 114 meters high and is made of rubble . The planning and construction began in 1975. The actual construction work began in 1980 and lasted until 1983. The dam has a flood relief with four independent locks to prevent overflow of the dam. The inflow is controlled by the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) and thus determines the water level of the lake. The irrigation system, which is fed by the reservoir, supplies the farms in Districts I to IV in the Isabela Province.
Hydroelectric power plant
The hydropower plant generates an output of 381 megawatts and is designed as a peak load power plant. Four turbines from a French manufacturer, each with a nominal output of 90 megawatts, were installed. These run an average of three hundred work cycles a year and together generate 929 gigawatts of electricity per year. The hydropower plant was privatized in 2007 and is owned by the joint venture company SN Aboitiz Equity Ventures, in which the Norwegian SN Power and the Philippine Aboitiz Equity Ventures each hold 50 percent .
