The Southwell River is a river in the northwest of the Australian state of Tasmania .

River course
The river has its source on the northern slopes of Mount Cripps , around seven kilometers north of the Cradle Mountain Lake St. Clair National Park and initially flows north. Then it describes a semicircle to the west and south and finally flows into Lake Mackintosh and thus into the Mackintosh River .
