Ruteng is an Indonesian city in the west of the island of Flores ( East Nusa Tenggara Province ).
geography
Ruteng is the capital of the administrative district ( Kabupaten ) Manggarai and forms a separate district ( Kecamatan ) in it. 14 kilometers north of Ruteng is the Liang Bua fossil site , where the remains of Homo floresiensis were discovered in September 2003 .
Residents
The native Manggarai are best known for their ritual whip fight caci , which is now also a tourist attraction. The majority of the approximately 35,000 inhabitants are of Roman Catholic faith.
Infrastructure
The city has an airport. The Frans Sales Lega Airport is two kilometers from the city center. Ruteng is the seat of the Ruteng diocese . The cathedral of the diocese is also located here.
