Normanville is a French commune with 1,073 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Eure in the region of Normandy ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Évreux and the canton of Évreux-2 . The inhabitants call themselves Normanvillais.

geography

The Iton River flows through Normanville. The municipality is located on Route nationale 154 and about 6 kilometers north of Évreux .

history

In 1225, Normanville was given to Simon de Poissy as a fief by Louis VIII . In the 15th century, the fief went to the Melun family. Charles de Melun († August 22, 1468) was Baron de Normanville et des Landes and Vogt of Evreux. He was by King Ludwig XI. appointed Grand Master of France . He was accused of high treason by Jean de La Balue , convicted and beheaded in Le Petit-Andely .

In 1811 Caër was incorporated.

Normanville had the fewest inhabitants in 1936 (176). From the 1970s the community grew.

Attractions

In the parish church there is a stone statue from the 17th century, listed as Monument Historique, and a commemorative plaque from 1598, donated by Simon Michellet, who became known as Yves d'Évreux. The altarpiece was made in 1531 and later moved to Normanville from another church. It was classified as a Monument historique in 1906.
