Le Vieil-Evreux (literally, the old Evreux ') is a French municipality with 812 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Eure in the region of Normandy .

Le Vieil-Évreux is located in northern France in the east of the Eure department, 83 kilometers northwest of Paris and 6 kilometers southeast of Évreux, the capital of the Eure department. Neighboring municipalities of Le Vieil-Évreux are Fauville in the northwest, Gauciel in the northeast, La Trinité in the southeast and Guichainville in the southwest. The municipal area covers 1157 hectares, the mean height is 123 meters above sea ​​level , the Mairie is at an altitude of 133 meters. The hamlet of Cracouville belongs to the municipality, it is located southwest of the town center.

Gisacum is the archaeological site of a religiously influenced Gallo-Roman town in the municipality of Le Vieil-Évreux. The center of Gisacum is 200 meters northeast of Cracouville. Gisacum was built in the 1st century and abandoned in the 3rd century. The buildings of Gisacum were then used as a public quarry for the construction of the ramparts of Évreux. The Great Sanctuary was used as a necropolis from the 6th century. From 1765 to 1770 the ruins were used to build the road from Paris to Lisieux .

In 1793, Le Vieil-Évreux received the status of a municipality. In 1801 it was renamed Saint-Aubin and received the right to local self-government through the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte (1769–1821) . In the following, the community was first called Saint-Aubin-du-Vieil-Évreux and from 1845 again Le Vieil-Évreux.

The hamlets of Le Coudray and Cracouville were incorporated in 1810, the locality of Saint-Aubin-du-Vieil-Évreux in 1845.

Culture and sights

In 2002 the 2.5 hectare archaeological garden of the thermal baths of Gisacum was opened. It is open to visitors from March 1st to November 15th.

The Roman Catholic community Communauté du Vieil Evreux belongs to the parish Notre Dame du Grand Sud d'Evreux of the Diocese of Évreux . In the church of Saint-Aubin there is a listed altarpiece from the 17th century, which was classified as a Monument historique in 1944 .
