Haymon de Corbeil

Haymon de Corbeil († May 23, 957 ) was the first known Comte of the County of Corbeil .

Life

Haymon was of Norman descent. He was used by Hugo the Great in Corbeil and was probably already Count von Mortain . Haymon died on a pilgrimage to Rome . He was buried in what was then the collegiate church of Saint-Spire in Corbeil-Essonnes , which he had built from 950. In the 14th century, a reclining figure was erected in memory of the founder , depicting him with a battle coat, shield and a dragon at his feet.

After Haymon's death, his wife Elizabeth's second husband , Burchard I , took over the county.
