Karl Eugen von Arenberg (French Charles-Eugene d'Arenberg ) (born May 8, 1633 in Brussels , † June 25, 1681 in Mons ) was the second Duke of Arenberg and the eighth Duke of Aarschot .

Life

He was the son of Philipp Karl von Arenberg and his third wife Marie Cleopha von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen .

As a later son, he first entered the Cologne cathedral chapter . In 1644 he was together with his brother Philipp Franz from Emperor Ferdinand III. raised to the hereditary imperial ducal status. The first ruling duke became his brother. Karl Eugen resigned from the cathedral chapter after the early death of his brother's children and married Marie Henriette de Cusanc in 1660. With this he had three children. Among them was the heir Philipp Karl Franz .

After the death of his childless brother Philipp-Franz in 1674, he became the ruling duke and was Grand-Bailli and captain-general of Hainaut . Since 1678 he was also a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece .

He married on June 19, 1660 in Dole Maria Theresia Henriette de Cusance (1624-1701). The couple had the following children:
