Complete directory of German-language literature

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The General Directory of German-Language Literature (GV) is a so-called “retrospective national bibliography ” for the German-speaking area, which chronologically retrospectively - that is, retrospectively - records the German-language literature as comprehensively as possible . The 396 volumes of the GV cover the period from 1700 to 1965 (for gray literature and university papers until 1980) and were published by KG Saur Verlag in Munich. The directory is considered to be an important library resource, even if its importance has declined due to newer, more accessible and more researchable online catalogs.

German-language prints from all over the world as well as foreign-language printed works published in the German-speaking area are listed .

It includes font classes from all distribution channels such as books , magazines , maps , dissertations , school programs , etc., as well as German-language literature outside the book trade .

The GA is not based on the autopsy principle , but rather on the basis of older bibliographies, so it has taken over their errors and gaps.
