The protected landscape component source region Kohlseifen with 1.42  hectares is located northeast of Winterberg . The area was designated as a protected landscape component (LB) in 2008 when the Winterberg landscape plan was drawn up by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . The LB is surrounded by the Winterberg nature reserve . The LB is north of the Ruhrkopf mountain .

Area description

It is the source region of a nameless brook with a curved, locally swamped Siepen on a gently sloping slope. In the LB there are extensive seepage springs in an area of ​​wet grassland fallow, willow bushes and spring meadows rich in moss. The nameless creek becomes the Kohlseifenbach 200 m below the LB together with a quellsiepenbach to the west. The Kohlseifenbach is the first major tributary of the Ruhr . There are rare plant species in the LB. The source region is a legally protected biotope according to § 30 BNatSchG . The LB is surrounded by spruce forest.
