A history map is a work of cartography that summarizes a fact of the past, for example an event in world history , as a thematic map . A collection of history maps in book form is called a history atlas.

term

The term history map is clearly used in the history of cartography literature. On the other hand, historical map is not unambiguous, since this can also refer to an old map (usually in a non-technical environment) . The case is different in English, for example, where historical map always means a history map and is generally not confused with an old map.

Of course, a history card from the 18th century, the subject of which is an event even further back, can also be an old card from today's perspective (old cards are cards that were published before 1800 or 1850, depending on the definition).
