Society for Energy Science and Energy Policy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Society for Energy Science and Energy Policy eV (GEE) is an association in Berlin and the German section of the International Association for Energy Economics .

The GEE was founded in 1981 as a non-profit association amid the discussion about the civil use of nuclear energy in Germany. Today it has around 250 individual members. In the GEE, experts from the energy industry, politics, associations and science are organized in order to find a politically open, interdisciplinary forum that promotes the exchange of views for the professional discussion of energy-related topics .

With the GEE, a neutral platform in particular was to be created at that time, on which the topic of civilian use of nuclear energy could be discussed controversially in the context of evening events, seminars and conferences. The range of topics at the GEE events is now much broader. Issues such as the liberalization of the energy markets, market failure and regulation, trading in electricity and natural gas, emissions and emissions trading, prices of energy sources, prospects for investments in new technologies and the energy transition are now often the subject of regular meetings.

The GEE annually awards the GEE Prize of the Energieforum Berlin in the categories of bachelor / master theses and dissertations. Current academic work in the field of energy management issues is honored. In addition to economic concepts, technical, legal or energy policy approaches can also be dealt with. In terms of content, the work should deal with practice-relevant topics and make a contribution to classic energy management issues. Georg Erdmann, for example, presented the various problems of the nuclear phase-out in an interview. He was still a member of the independent commission of experts for monitoring "Energy of the Future".

The current CEO is Aaron Praktiknjo (as of February 2018). Former CEOs included Georg Erdmann (1999–2017), Wolfgang Pfaffenberger (1995–1999), Ulf Hansen (1982-?) And Lutz Hoffmann (1981).
