Society for Intellectual History

The Society for Spiritual History (GGG eV) was founded in 1958 by the Erlangen professor for religious and intellectual history, Hans-Joachim Schoeps . In his 1959 book What is and what does intellectual history? Using the theory and practice of zeitgeist research , Schoeps pleads for greater consideration of mostly neglected source types in intellectual history research. Based on Wilhelm Dilthey's theory of science , society has since tried the spirit of a time, the zeitgeistto grasp how it is expressed in the manifestations of spiritual life - philosophy, art, religion, state, politics, economics, law, etc. The company's interdisciplinary way of working is also evident at its annual meetings, which have dealt with a broad cross-section of intellectual history over the past 50 years.

The GGG is a registered association based in Potsdam. The society, which is recognized as non-profit, pursues exclusively and directly non-profit purposes. All natural and legal persons as well as unincorporated associations who want to promote intellectual history as a science can become members.
