The Society for Crop Science e. V. (GPW) is a scientific society whose members in the field of agricultural crop production and neighboring disciplines ( grassland farming , medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation , seed and variety beings , experimentation , agricultural ecology etc.) are inquiring operates.

Tasks and structure

The purpose and aim of the professional society, founded in Bonn in 1956 , is to promote research in plant cultivation through conferences, publications and support for young scientists. The number of members is currently around 500. Within the company there are specialist working groups and working groups. The Plant Breeding Working Group left the GPW in 1990 and founded the Society for Plant Breeding in 1991 with the corresponding specialist society of the former GDR .

The professional society publishes two series of publications: The communications of the Society for Plant Science and the reports of the Society for Plant Science . The central organ of publication was since 1997 the journal Agronomy (German Journal of Agronomy), but 2,010 of science structural and financial reasons in the Journal for crops has been integrated.

Since 2005, the professional association has been awarding the Ernst Klapp Future Prize on the occasion of its annual meetings as an award for the best lecture by a young scientist.
