Society house in Herrenkrug Park
The society house in Herrenkrug Park was a society house in Herrenkrug Park in Magdeburg . It was damaged in World War II and later demolished.
location
It was located on a roundabout at the northeast end of Herrenkrug-Allee , thus closing off the line of sight.
Architecture and history
The single-storey classical plastered building was built in 1843/44 by Friedrich Wilhelm Wolff . Previously the rifle house of the Palatinate Colony was located here . The social building consisted of a five-axis central building, which was flanked on both sides by smaller three-axis wing structures. The middle part had arcades behind which there were large arched windows. This part of the building was crowned by a triangular gable . A flight of stairs led to the building in front of the three central axes . Inside the house was a large hall that was accessed through foyers .
The society house was a venue for parties and balls.
During the Second World War, the building, referred to in literature as a monument , was damaged and then demolished at the end of the 1950s, which severely impaired the entire Herrenkrugpark ensemble. Other sources state that there was no war-related damage.
