The Shop Closing Act (Abbreviation LadSchlG ) is a German law regulating shop opening times. The aim of the law is to ensure uniform opening times of sales outlets i. S. v. Section 1 (1).

After a federal reform, the legislative authority over shop opening times lies with the federal states. Most federal states allow much longer opening times than the federal law, especially on normal working days.

Essential content

The shop closing act regulates negatively for all sales outlets that on Sundays and public holidays , Monday to Saturday until 6 a.m. and from 8 p.m., as well as on December 24 , if this day falls on a working day, until 6 a.m. and from 2 p.m. Sales outlets must be closed to customers ( § 3 ).

The other regulations allow exceptions for special sales outlets, including pharmacies and petrol stations .

The special protection of employees is expressly described in Section 17 .

Finally, criminal offenses or administrative offenses are regulated ( § 24 , § 25 ).
