Gessin is a district of the municipality Basedow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, southwest of Malchin .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1247 under the name "villa Jacin", when Bishop Wilhelm von Cammin placed the place in the former area of ​​the Zirzipanen under the church Basedow . 1337 enfeoffed Johann III. von Werle the four sons of Nicholas II von Hahn with the place now called "dorp Getzin". In 1349 the name "dorp to Jessyn" was used, which was subsequently changed to Gessin. The name of the place is probably derived from the Slavic word Jasen for the ash tree , which may have been typical here.
