The village church in Gessin (now part of Basedow ) in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a towerless chapel made of field stones and bricks, which was built around 1400 in the Gothic style . It is a church in the parish of Gielow in the Rostock provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ).

The church is located in the center of Gessin and is surrounded by a cemetery. It has an octagonal end of the choir. The interior is closed with a ribbed cross vault and has three small windows. Five narrow panels adorn the west gable. The church has no significant furnishings . The candlesticks on the altar date from around 1700. On the outer wall of the west gable is an open bell cage with a small bell without an inscription.

In addition to church services, changing exhibitions also take place in the building. In 1975, the Gessin church chapel was a location for the DEFA film “ Elective Affinities ” based on Goethe's novel .
