The set screw or grub screw or worm screw is a screw without a head . Instead, the free end has a slot (out of date) or a hole with a hexagon socket or hexalobular socket ( Torx ) for inserting a screwdriver .

The front end of the threaded pin is flat or has a point ( cone ) or a flat spigot (threadless) depending on the use .

The threaded pin is used as a locking screw (preferably in the counterpart eingrabender tip) or as usually with fine thread provided screw for adjustment of the measuring instruments used. A pin is attached when transverse forces z. B. are to be kept away from the thread when guiding the pin in a groove . Otherwise the thread tips would be flattened and the pin would no longer be rotatable.
