Tidal fishing ( French pêche à pied ) is a fishing method that is operated on coasts with a tidal range (in Europe especially on the northern French coasts ( Petite mer de Gâvres )). Here, the dry fallen seabed to shell molluscs of Malakofauna , in the lagoons searched and rocky coasts also for fish.

Ancient Køkkenmøddinger on the Atlantic coast indicate that this method has been an important, at least seasonal source of food for hunters and gatherers since the end of the last ice age , which has been preserved regionally to this day.

Today, minimum sizes are required when collecting shellfish and clams in France. According to a 2008 study, nearly 2 million French people practice this hobby occasionally or regularly each year.
