List of apple varieties

The 'Edle von Leipzig' is a variety of the cultivated apple and the winter apples .

description

The fruits of the 'Edlen von Leipzig' are large to very large with medium-firm pulp . The peel is greasy and often speckled and the apple often suffers from glassiness . The sweet and sour fruits only have a medium taste.

The tree is vigorous with comparatively few branches. The 'Edler von Leipzig' variety is only slightly susceptible to scab and infections from Podosphaera leucotricha ( powdery mildew ).

origin

The 'Edle von Leipzig' was bred around 1900 by H. Heidrich from Leipzig-Holzhausen. He is a cross between 'Ontario' and 'Jakob Lebel'.

use

The variety 'Edler von Leipzig' is only interesting for lovers and variety collectors. The base should be of weak to medium growth. Due to the shelf life until March of next year, the variety is suitable as a winter apple. To preserve it, it is planted in projects to create orchards and apple alleys.
