Gheorghiță Ciocioi

Gheorghiță Ciocioi (born November 11, 1964 in Teleorman County ) is a Romanian ethnologist , publicist and translator . He holds a PhD in Philology from the University of Bucharest (the thesis entitled “Corpusul baladei jertfei zidirii din spatial slav sud-dunarean”) and specializes in cultural anthropology and folklore.

Gheorghiță Ciocioi has a particular interest in Romanian, Balkan and Slavic ethnology and religion (ballads, legends, Christmas carols, hagiography, mentality, historical relationships between “Târnovo” and the Romanian lands patriarchy and the Metropolitan Church, the Medio-Bulgarian literature, the Chronicle of the religious contemporary life). He has published many books, articles and translations on these subjects. Between 2014 and 2015 he received a research grant from the Romanian Academy to research the southern Danube ballads .
