Ghulam Dastagir Shaida

Ghulam Dastagir Shaida (* around 1910 , † April 22, 1970 in Kabul ) was next to Sarahang and Rahim Bakhsh as one of the great Ustāds (masters) of the Kabul music district Kharabat .

Shaida's unique voice and singing style led other kharabat musicians to give him the title Shaida, which in Sufi tradition stands for someone who has "sacrificed himself for divine love."

His father was also a musician and played rubab . As a businessman, he often traveled to India . During one of these trips he wrote the young Shaida an der Gesangssch because of his popularity with musicians and audiences. He was awarded the title Ustād by the Ministry of Culture.

Ghulam Dastagir Shaida died of his injuries on April 22, 1970 after a car accident on the outskirts of Kabul. He was buried in Kabul.
