Facts

  • Arthur Looff's father, Charles ID Looff, built the boardwalk's beloved carousel back in 1911, which is still in operation like Giant Dipper.
  • There is another roller coaster with the same name in Belmont Park . It was built in 1925 and has the same dimensions.
  • In 1987 the railway was recognized by the National Park Service as a National Historic Landmark - a National Historic Landmark .
  • Looff describes his plans as a combination of earthquake , balloon ascent, and plane crash.
  • When the railway opened, it differed from the railway we know today. Instead of an indoor station, it had an outdoor station without a tunnel at the beginning of the journey. It was also green, not red. The trains were exchanged a few times. In February 2007, the front of the trains was marked with a 100 year mark and the sides were painted red and blue.
  • Giant Dipper is the sixth oldest roller coaster in America.
