Gibbney Buttress is a 1,800 m high, steep-walled ridge of the Big Ben volcano on the island of Heard in the southern Indian Ocean . It rises on the north side of Big Ben and extends from Davis Dome in a mainly northwest direction to Atlas Cove .
It is named after L. F. Gibbney, biologist of two campaigns of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions in 1950 and 1952 to Heard Island.
