Giedroyć
The Giedroyć family , [ ˈɡʲɛdrɔɪ̯t͡ɕ ], ( plural Giedroyciowie , Lithuanian Giedraitis , plus plural Giedraičiai ) are Lithuanian and Polish princely noble families, originally from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . The name refers to the Lithuanian place Giedraičiai , which belonged to the family.
origin
The Giedraičiai probably go back to the time of the Lithuanian King Mindaugas († 1263), but are not related to him. There is no reliable information about the first members of the family, and the persons listed in the first documents cannot be brought into any precise family relationship. According to tradition from the 16th century, they are descendants of the legendary Prince Giedrius , a younger son of Grand Duke Gediminas († 1341).
