Giggijochbahn
The Giggijochbahn is a cable car in Sölden in the Ötztal Alps . It leads from the valley to the ski area above Hochsölden. The railway is operated by Bergbahnen Sölden (BBS), a network of three companies.
The valley station of the railway is at an altitude of 1352 meters, the mountain station is 2284 meters high. The distance between the valley and mountain stations is around 2670 meters. On the steepest incline, it has an incline of around 75 percent.
First train (1977-1998)
The first Giggijochbahn was built in 1977 as a 4-person monocable gondola (4-MGD).
After dismantling in 1998, the cabins and some of the other equipment on this cable car were reused in the following year when the Ochsengartenbahn was rebuilt in Hochoetz.
Second runway (1998-2016)
The second Giggijochbahn was built in 1998. It was a so-called 8-MGD gondola of the Doppelmayr / Garaventa Group , eight people were transported with their cabins. The Giggijochbahn did not have a middle station.
Due to the inadequate transport services, the Bergbahnen Sölden lift company decided to demolish the lift in 2016 in order to be able to replace it with a new lift. As with its predecessor, this cable car will be reused as the Ochsengarten cable car in Hochoetz, replacing the "old" Giggijoch cable car from 1977.
Third runway (2016–)
The lift, built in 2016, is a 10-person monocable gondola from Doppelmayr. 133 cabins are used. The transport capacity is 4500 people per hour. The station buildings were designed by Johann Obermoser 's office.
