Gijs de Vries
Gijs de Vries (born February 22, 1956 in New York ) is a Dutch politician of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD).
Life
De Vries was a member of the European Parliament from 1984 to 1998 and Deputy Interior Minister of the Netherlands from 1998 to 2002. On March 25, 2004, he became the EU's counter-terrorism coordinator . As such, he worked under Javier Solana in the field of police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters ; this is one of the three pillars of the European Union . According to Solana, his area of responsibility essentially consisted of the rationalization, organization and coordination of the anti-terrorism measures of the European Union and its members. His term of office ended in March 2007.
