The Gila River Indian Community is an Indian reservation in the US -Bundesstaat Arizona in the area of the Gila River . It is south of Phoenix , Tempe and Chandler . 14,000 people live in the reserve on an area of ​​1,505 km². The reserve was established in 1859 and officially recognized as such in 1939.

The Gila River Indian Reservation is inhabited by two linguistically different but culturally similar tribes: the Maricopa , who belong to the River Yuma and call themselves Pee-Posh - 'people' or 'people', and the Keli Akimel O'Odham (Own name Keli Akimel Au-Authm - 'people who live along the Gila River '), a subgroup of the Akimel O'Odham .

Inside the reserve is the Hohokam Pima National Monument , a national monument that preserves the Snaketown settlement of the prehistoric Hohokam culture . It is not open to the public.
