In 2011 his book “The Arabs and the Holocaust. The Arab-Israeli War of Narratives «, which was praised by Palestinian scholars and Holocaust researchers alike for its rigorous scientific approach. For example, writes Peter Novick , author of “After the Holocaust. Dealing with Mass Murder ", about Gilbert Achcar's book:
“A sensitive investigation of significant proportions into the Middle East conflict, which we usually only encounter in angry, striking slogans. Gilbert Achcar's book, which combines meticulous science with an engaging style, is an important contribution to a mutual understanding that is so lacking. "
Avi Shlaim , author of "The Iron Wall: Israel and the Arab World" writes:
“In this study, Gilbert Achcar exposes numerous pseudo-scientific works on the subject and puts Arab attitudes towards the Holocaust and the Jews in their appropriate historical and intellectual context. It is a learned, astute, and extremely original investigation that sheds much-needed light on an area that has tended to be dominated by partisanship and propaganda. "
A detailed interview with Gilbert Achcar about his book appeared u. a. in the Israeli daily Jedi'ot Acharonot in Hebrew with an English translation in "The Jerusalem Report". The book was also discussed positively in the German-language press, although the highly sensitive topic also led to heated debates. In 2012 the book was published in German under the title »The Arabs and the Holocaust. The Arab-Israeli War of Historiography. "
