Jeffrey Herf

Jeffrey Charles Herf (born April 24, 1947 ) is a history professor at the University of Maryland , specializing in the intellectual and cultural history of 20th century Europe , especially Germany .

Life

Herf received his Ph. D. from Brandeis University in Massachusetts in 1980 . Before becoming a professor at the University of Maryland, he taught at Ohio University in Athens , Ohio . He has written articles for Die Zeit , The New Republic and Partisan Review .

In autumn 2007 Jeffrey Herf was a fellow at the American Academy in Berlin .

Positions on the subject of Islam and fascism

In an interview with the Berlin weekly newspaper jungle world in July 2010, Herf reported on a conference “Arab responses to fascism and National Socialism ” in Tel Aviv in May 2010. In it he expressed the view that some scholars have not had Islamist anti-Semitism since the 1920s examine and therefore do not want to recognize.
