Gilbert Bellone

Gilbert Bellone (born December 27, 1942 in Grasse ) is a former French cyclist .

Athletic career

As amateur Bellone could (the Italian ancestors had) 1961, the mountain time trial from La Turbie win. This victory gave him the opportunity to become a professional driver . Shortly thereafter, he received his first professional contract with the Margnard-Rochet-Dunlop team . For the team, he contested his first Tour de France in 1965 . He was at the start of the tour a total of eight times. His best tour result was 34th place in 1972 . He won the 10th stage of the tour in 1968. He also won a stage at the Vuelta a España in 1967 . In 1969 he finished the Vuelta as 7th. In 1969 he won the Criterium National stage race . In 1972 he was successful in Germany when he won the race around the Henningerturm ahead of Eddy Merckx . In 1972 he started for the German Rokado team alongside Hennes Junkermann . Bellone was also particularly successful in criteria , winning 17 such races in the course of his career.

doping

Bellone had tested positive for a doping agent during the Tour de France in 1967 . He was later convicted, but was acquitted twice after appeals in 1969. He had stated that he had treated a severe flu with the substances found .
