Gilbert G. Groud (* around 1956 in Toulépleu , Ivory Coast ) is a painter, graphic artist, illustrator and author from Ivory Coast.

biography

Gilbert Groud was born around 1956 in a village near Toulepleu in the Ivory Coast. He has 23 siblings, who do not all come from the same mother because his father lived polygamous . 7 siblings are descended from the same mother.

At first, like all his brothers and some of his sisters, he attended school in his home village, and later he went to town to complete his education. In 1979 he began his art studies at the University Institut Nationale des Arts in Abidjan and specialized in communication . He wrote his thesis in 1983 on the subject of "Magie Noire" ( Black Magic ). The trilogy “Magie Noire” was created on the basis of this work. Groud is currently working on the third and final book in the series.

Groud has lived in Switzerland since 2006 .

Groud is actively involved against the use of children in war . This problem is widespread in his homeland, Ivory Coast . He is planning several exhibitions on child soldiers in Europe and is working on a comic that will bring people closer to this topic.

Groud speaks out against the practice of so-called black magic. His books are a way to get your ideas across. He also goes on lecture tours to France and within Switzerland.

At the moment he is planning to bring out a comic against the circumcision of female genitals in collaboration with a German .
