Gilbert Mottard

Gilbert Mottard (born October 10, 1926 in Hollogne-aux-Pierres , † February 21, 2011 in Grâce-Hollogne ) was a Belgian politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS). He was Mayor of Grâce-Hollogne, Governor of the Province of Liège and Minister of Pensions in the Belgian government from 1990 to 1992.

Life

Gilbert Mottard, who grew up in a traditional socialist family - his father had stood for election on the lists of the Belgian Workers' Party , the predecessor of the Socialist Party - began his political career at the age of 26 as mayor of Hollogne-aux-Pierre and was the youngest at the time Head of community in the country. He took over the deputy chairmanship of the Mouvement populaire wallon and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1968 . After the municipality merger in 1971, Mottard was elected the first mayor of the new municipality of Grâce-Hollogne. After a few months he was appointed provincial governor of Liège and resigned from the mayor's office. After the then Minister for Pensions, Alain Van der Biest (PS), moved to the government of the Walloon Region in the early 1990s , Mottard held his post in the Martens VIII and Martens IX governments for two years .

Gilbert Mottard, who was considered a confidante of the murdered PS President André Cools , died on February 21, 2011. His son, Maurice Mottard , is also a member of the PS and acting mayor of the municipality of Grâce-Hollogne.
