Benigno Gilberto "Kike" Penayo (born April 3, 1933 in Asunción , Paraguay) is a former Paraguayan football player .

Life

Penayo began to be interested in football at an early age and played with the Salesians of Don Bosco , a Catholic religious community that had its own league for young people. In his career, in which he also came to some games for the Paraguayan national team at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, he never moved abroad. Parallel to his football career, he completed a degree in chemistry at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, where he later worked as a professor for over 40 years.

After a failed trial session at the traditional club Libertad, Penayo was signed to Sol de América, where he made his debut in a friendly against the Chacarita Juniors from Buenos Aires.

After the 1958 World Cup, he switched to the most popular Paraguayan football club, with which he won a total of two championships.
