Gilles Brisebarre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gilles Brisebarre (* before 1179, † after 1220) was Lord of Blanchegarde in the Kingdom of Jerusalem .

He was the son of Walter III. Brisebarre , Lord of Blanchegarde , formerly Lord of Beirut , and his second wife Agnes. When his father died between 1179 and 1186, Gilles inherited his rights to Blanchegarde. Since Gilles was still a minor at that time, Walter's younger brother Bernard (1186 documented) initially led the regency for Gilles. In 1198 at the latest, Gilles himself had taken over the government.

He married Agnes von Leiron, the niece of Aimerich von Lairon , lord of Caesarea. With her he had a son, Rudolf (Raoul), who followed him after his death as Lord of Blanchegarde. Gille's date of death has not survived, the last documentary evidence of his life dates from 1220, and in 1253 his son Rudolf is documented as the ruling lord of Blanchegarde.
