Gillet Herstal 720 AB (prey machine)

The Gillet Herstal 720 AB was a motorcycle combination from the Belgian manufacturer Gillet Herstal , which was built for the Belgian military from 1937 to 1940.

Technology and dissemination

Gillet already had experience with the development of two-stroke engines , so in 1937 the Belgian military ordered a large-displacement two-stroke sidecar machine in a number of 784 units. The power of the two-cylinder two- stroke engine with a displacement of 728 cm³ (bore 76 mm, stroke 80 mm) was given as 23  hp at 3600 min −1 . Problems with the overheating of this huge two-stroke engine, as well as the enormous gasoline consumption of up to 20 liters per 100 km, did not speak for the construction.

The French army also ordered Gillet Herstal 720 AF (F for France with a Bernadet sidecar) motorcycle combinations, but they were never delivered and were used by the Wehrmacht as booty machines - like the AB - after the Western campaign .
