Gillian Martin is a Scottish politician and a member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Martin grew up in Newburgh and was living in Newmachar at the time of her election to the Scottish Parliament . She attended the Ellon Academy in Ellon and then the University of Glasgow . After graduating, Martin worked in the media sector and also lectured at North East Scotland College . She is married and a mother of two.

Political career

As a result of her work, Martin was close to various SNP politicians. She finally joined the party the morning after the referendum on Scottish independence . She supported former First Minister Alex Salmond's election campaign for the 2015 general election in the Gordon constituency .

Salmond did not run for the Scottish general election in 2016 . As a result, successors were sought for the candidacy in his constituency of Aberdeenshire East . In addition to Martin, Salmond's advisor Jennifer Dempsie was also traded. Martin ultimately prevailed and won the direct mandate of the constituency with 45.8% of the vote.
