Icelandic culture

The New Iceland Heritage Museum (NIHM) is located in the Waterfront Center . After the Canadian Forces Base was given up in 1971 and numerous jobs were lost, the Icelandic Cultural Corporation was founded in 1972 . In 1974 the museum opened its doors. It offered exhibitions on Icelandic and Ukrainian immigration and fishing in three rooms. In 1994 the city took over the museum. In 1995 the decision was made to found a museum with the collection area Icelandic culture instead of the usual local museum.
