Juan Ginés Pérez

Juan Ginés Pérez (baptized October 7, 1548 in Orihuela, Alicante ; † 1612 ibid.) Was a Spanish conductor and composer.

Life

He received his training at the cathedral in his hometown and then worked there as Kapellmeister. From 1581 to 1595 he also held this position at the Cathedral of Valencia . Then he returned to his birthplace.

He mainly created sacred music, including some motets and psalms , etc. a. also parts of the music for the mystery play Misterio de Elche, which is still performed every year . Despite some peculiarities of his compositional style (large leaps in intervals in the vocal passages), he was highly regarded by his contemporaries.
