Alexia de Grecia

Alexia of Greece , Spanish Alexia de Grecia , Danish title: "Princess of Greece and Denmark" (born July 10, 1965 in Mon Repos Castle on Corfu , Kingdom of Greece ) is the first child of King Constantine II of Greece and his wife Anne- Marie of Denmark , the youngest daughter of King Friedrich IX. of Denmark and his wife Ingrid of Sweden . Alexia is not entitled to the throne in Denmark, however , because Friedrich IX. excluded the Greek children from the line of succession in order to avoid a collapse of the Greek and Danish crowns.

Life

Alexia spent her early childhood in Greece and from 1967 in exile in Rome. In Rome she was taught in Greek by private tutors. In 1973 the Greek monarchy was overthrown by the military regime of Papadopoulos . With the proclamation of the republic , King Constantine and his heirs lost their rights to rule over Greece. The family moved to England in 1974.

From 1980 Alexia was taught at Hellenic College in London. There she graduated from high school in 1984 . In 1984/85 she volunteered in a children's ward in a hospital in London. In 1985 she began studying history and education at Froebel College (department of Surrey University ), from which she graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts . In 1989 she acquired an additional pedagogical degree which enabled her to teach at a primary school in London from 1989 to 1992. In 1992 she moved to Spain, where she obtained a Masters degree from the University of Barcelona . Until 2002 she worked as a group therapist with children with Down syndrome .
