content

As the sun slowly reaches the end of its life, a group is formed under the leadership of the boy Rop. She is supposed to travel through the universe as Ginga Shōnentai in the intelligent, computerized spacecraft Mister 6 and find a way to rejuvenate the sun. In doing so, they encounter various evil forces that they have to fight against. In the sequel, Ginga Shōnentai defends the earth against an alien invasion from the dark side of the moon. They get to know the elegant people of the Anima from Venus and the simple-minded Poipoi from Mars.

Production and publication

The series was created at Takeda Puppet Theater and Studio Mushi Production , directed by Susumu Yasue . The technology of the Supermarionation was used for the production . The script, based on the idea of Osamu Tezuka , was written by Ichiro Wakabayashi and Jiro Shimada . The music was composed by Isao Tomita and the puppets were designed by Kinosuke Takeda , whose puppet theater also led the figures. Cel animations from Mushi Production were used for special effects, exterior and landscape shots and for the opening credits . A total of 92 episodes were created, each lasting 15 minutes.

The series was broadcast by NHK on Japanese television from April 7, 1963 to April 1, 1965 . Some episodes were broadcast with subtitles in France in 1964 and 1965, here under the title Le Commando de la Voie Lactee . These belong to the few surviving parts of the otherwise lost series. A collection of remaining parts of the French version was also released on DVD in Japan.

meaning

For Osamu Tezuka's studio Mushi Production, it was the first production alongside Astro Boy and marked the transition from puppet animation to cel animation on television. It is one of the puppet animated series that have since been almost forgotten and lost, but played an important role in the first cel-animated television series: until then, cel-animation was considered too expensive and slow to produce for television series. The use as part of puppet animation series gave the first opportunity to establish animations with cels in television productions. At Ginga Shōnentai , the animations by Tezuka's studio were also a selling point for the series.
