Gio Batta Morassi

Gio Batta Morassi (actually Giovanni Battista Morassi ; born July 2, 1934 in Arta Terme ; † February 27, 2018 ) was an Italian violin maker .

Morassi attended the violin making school in Cremona from 1951 to 1955, where he was a student of Giuseppe Ornati and Ferdinando Garimberti . After his military service he taught violin making himself in Cremona. In 1971 he became a master violin maker; In 1980 he founded the Associazione Liuteria Italiana , a society that includes violin makers and scientists as well as musicians and music lovers and which publishes the magazine Liuteria, Musica, Cultura .

His own research in materials and construction resulted in instruments that are internationally valued. Violins, violas and cellos come from his workshop. The violin making tradition is continued by his son Simeone Morassi and his nephew Giovanni Battista Morassi .
