Giovannello da Itala: Scenes from the Life of Saint Clare (Museo Regionale da Messina)

Giovannello da Itala (active 1490 - around 1531 in Messina ) was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance in Sicily .

Life

The painter Giovannello, who comes from Itala near Messina , is stylistically in the footsteps of Antonello da Messina and was at times an employee of Antonello de Saliba . In 1504 he worked with Salvo d'Antonio for the brotherhood of Santa Maria di Gesù in Condrò on a banner with an "Annunciation" and the "Flagellation of Christ".
