Itala is an Italian commune in the metropolitan city of Messina in the autonomous region of Sicily with 1568 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Itala is 23 kilometers southwest of Messina . The residents mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Alì , Alì Terme , Fiumedinisi , Messina and Scaletta Zanclea .

history

The founding date of the place is unknown. From 1928 to 1947 Itala was part of Scaletta Zanclea.

Attractions

The parish church dates from the 16th century, inside there is a wooden cross from the 14th century. The Madonna della Catena church is in the Borgo district, and the bell tower is striking. The church of Santi Pietro e Paolo was founded in 1093 by Count Roger . It was a Greek monastery church. The interior consists of three naves, with the choir room being higher.
