history

The place originated in the Middle Ages. The last Lacedaemonians - the community name refers to them - fled from the Peloponnese at the beginning of the 10th century from the invading Slavs here to former ( Greater Greek ) compatriots. The real destination of the refugees was originally Taranto . Their traces will soon be lost for good (see Val Demone ). The place became a fiefdom of the Spadafora family in 1296 .
