history
The Lipari-Patti double diocese was founded in 1131, but not finally by Alexander III until 1166 . accepted. The bishops by no means regularly carried the double title, often only the name episcopus pactensis (Bishop of Patti) is found. They are likely to have resided mainly in Patti despite a privileged ship connection to the island of Lipari , which was not very practical even in the Middle Ages when the weather conditions were poor. When they separated in 1399, Patti became the seat of the Patti diocese . During the war of the Sicilian Vespers , the parish was burned down on the orders of Frederick II of Aragon . In 1544 the parish was burned down again, this time by pirates of Ariadeno Barbarossa .
