Leni is a city in the metropolitan city of Messina in the Sicily region in Italy with 689 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Leni is located on the south coast of the Aeolian island of Salina . The inhabitants work mainly in agriculture and in summer in tourism. There are other jobs in the fishing industry.

Salina can be reached by ferries and hydrofoils from Messina or Milazzo to the port of Santa Marina Salina. In summer there are also connections to Cefalù , Naples and Vibo Valentia .

The neighboring communities of Lenis on the island of Salina are Malfa and Santa Marina Salina .

Attractions

The pilgrimage church of Madonna del Terzito is located north of Leni. It is the oldest Marian shrine in the Aeolian Islands. The church was built from 1622 on the foundations of an ancient Roman temple and was thoroughly renovated from 1901. Solemn processions take place on the feast days of the Madonna.
